The Marquess of Linlithgow (Viceroy of India) wrote to Mr. Amery (Secretary of State for India and for Burma) on 17th January 1942:
"He sent a summary of All india
Congress Committee Session at Wardha on 15th January 1942. Gandhi in course of
an hours speech urged for complete support for the Bardoli resolution. Gandhi
emphatically denied he wanted to turn Congress into religious body, and that
there had been split or quarrel in Working Committee. Known difference between
him and Nehru could not separate them; Nehru was Gandhi’s heir, and after
Gandhi’s death would take up all his work.”
